Green Lantern(2011)-My Review

Well to start off Green Lantern along with Batman are my two favourite superheroes and i'll try not to be biased with this one.Green Lantern is a 2011 American superhero film directed by Martin Campbell and stars Ryan Reynolds,Blake Lively,Mark Strong and Peter Sarsgaard in the lead roles.
For those who have no idea who Green Lantern is,he is a part of an intergalactic protection force known as the Green Lantern corps. located on a fictional planet called "Oa".Tiny immortal creatures and inhabitants of the planet known only as "the guardians of the universe" create rings for the "chosen ones" to use as powerful weapons. These chosen ones are known as "Green Lanterns".The ring has the ability to project anything that the user can imagine through "hard light constructs" and the ring is fueled by the user's willpower. It has to be charged every 24 Earth hours by using the "battery" which in turn draws power from a central battery located on "Oa".There are about 7000 Lanterns in the universe, each one assigned to a particular region of space divided as sectors.Sadly, though there is not one human lantern and this story is about the first human to ever become a Green Lantern.Green Lantern is a DC comics character.
Ryan Reynold plays the role of Hal Jordan,a fighter pilot who goes on to become the first human Green Lantern and then goes onto become one of the greatest Lanterns ever by defeating a very powerful enemy to the corps. knows as "Parallax" all by himself. This depiction of Hal Jordan was alright but could have been more serious though because being funny is not Hal Jordan and that is encroachment upon Flash's territory.Nonetheless i found Ryan Reynolds as a perfect match for the character and he did do justice to it.
When Blake Lively comes to mind, television's "Gossip Girl(2007-present) comes to mind.In this movie she plays a co-pilot and love interest of the film's primary character. Can't really complain about her role in the movie but i did wish at one point that she had lesser screen time because i found her role to be distracting to the main plot.
Mark Strong plays the very aggressive "Sinestro" who is a fellow Green Lantern and a very important one.He does not enjoy a lot of screen time in this one but since the character is of very high importance i am sure we will see a lot of him in the sequel to follow.
Peter Sarsgaard plays Dr.Hector Hammond,a scientist who has always been jealous of Hal Jordan and is effected by the yellow energy of parallax and turns evil.Nothing much can be said about him but i'll just say he did well.
Since this is the season of superhero movies and since Green Lantern has a 200 million dollar budget you can expect some great special effects in the movie. But its the plot that was too thin in my opinion.I know that this is an origin movie but it felt like it ended too quickly.Director Martin Campbell who is famous for James Bond movies such as Goldeneye(1995) and Casino Royale(2006) has done an OK job with this one but should have taken a look at the animated DC original,"Green Lantern, first flight(2009)" because i found that to be a better origin movie. On the overall i liked it and thoroughly enjoyed it and one should never expect every superhero movie to be like Christopher Nolan's "Batman" series.
My rating:-4/5
My comment:-A must watch if you are a fan of superheroes like i am.

Bruce Almighty(2003)-My review.

So then how do i start with this one?Oh!Well the old fashioned way i guess.Bruce Almighty was a 2003 American comedy movie directed by Tom Shadyac and stars Jim Carrey,Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Aniston in the lead roles. The movie is about a common man,Bruce Nolan(Jim Carrey) being given the power and responsibility of the almighty himself and how he handles the power. The film is very funny at times and has its fair share of seriousness as well which includes certain words by God(Morgan Freeman) which can make one really think about themselves. The part that i found to my liking the most was that God was not potrayed as a man belonging to any single religion, but instead as just a common man like anybody else.
What can be said about Jim Carrey.I find him to be an extraordinary actor because its his versatility that intrigues me.From playing eccentric characters in "The Mask" and "Ace Ventura",he went on to play a completely contrasting role in "The Truman Show" doing equally well on all three occasions. He is one of the those actors who does not require an academy award to prove himself. This role in my opinion is a combination of my two previous mentioned roles of his.He was near perfect in this one.I feel he was made for it.
Now coming to Morgan Freeman, nothing much can be said about him because he appears to be comfortable with whatever role he plays and plays it well.I am sure nobody can play a role full of wisdom better than he can.The role of God is tricky and this portrayal as an easy going man is very good.
Anybody used to the popular television show known as "Friends(1994-2004)" would be familiar with "Rachel" played by Jennifer Aniston who plays the female lead and the girlfriend of Bruce Nolan(Jim Carrey). This role is very different in comparison to the role of "Rachel" which she has played for 10 years. This just proves that Aniston is an actress with a lot of potential.
The key elements of the plot like i said includes a common man being given "the power" and how he realizes that one does not require God's power to lead a happy life. The director in my opinion has done a good job with this movie. It is very very funny at times as well, most notably the scene where Bruce makes Evan Baxter read the news in his own way. This is a Jim Carrey movie after all right? So it has to be funny. If you haven't seen it,you have missed an amazing movie.
My rating:-4.5/5
My comment:-A very satisfying and pleasurable experience.

Mortal Kombat-the greates fighting game????

Mortal kombat,i for one feel that the game is the greatest versus fighting game ever made. Now, i know some people might disagree with me on this statement but i'll give you my version to back it up.
Firstly, the game was the first to use digitized sprites instead of cartoony characters that its primary competiton Street Fighter used back in the day and also contained a very involving storyline that takes you into many worlds while playing the game.Secondly it was made by two Americans,Ed Boon and John Tobias which would mean that it would be completely different in comparison to the stereotypical japanese games of the time.
Its now in its 19th year of production and has managed to expand into a mega franchise. It now has 8 versus fighting games,3 action-adventure and also 2 movies in its portfolio, not to mention the ever expanding and popular comics and action figure range.
The story revolves around six realms and a fighting tournament with contestants from all the realms and the ultimate winner would go on to have control over all of them.Natuarally as is the case with most stories there would be bad guys and good guys. The primary bad guy happens to be a giant emperor of the realm of outworld called 'Shao Kahn' who seeks to win mortal kombat and gain control over all the realms and has many bad guys like Shang Tsung,Quan Chi,Goro,Baraka and Reptile to name a few working for him.The only force that keeps Shao Kahn from attaining his goal is the thunder god Raiden and his band of good guys such as Liu Kang,Kung lao,Jax,Johnny Cage,Sonya and many more.Additionally the story also revolves around two important characters such as a cryomancer Ninja hybrid named 'Sub zero' and his arch nemesis who was killed by him and returns from death to take revenge called 'Scorpion'.The story is very well written and expanded and contains may other characters such as Smoke,Sektor,Cyrax,Ermac and many other.
Now for my experience with the game.I did not start with the game like many would and started of with the movie in the 90s which rather fascinated me and drew my attention to the game which i played on the NES.Then i moved on to the PC for Mortal kombat 4 and finally landing on the ps2 for the Mortal kombat armageddon game. The game is very addictive and violent so it is only advisable to be played by people over the age of 18 with the trademark fatalities included.Look out for my next post and hope you had fun reading.

The ipod nano 5G-My review

Hello everybody.Keeping variety in mind i have decided to review my ipod nano 5G.The ipod, ever since it was launched way back in 2001 has managed to become the most popular portable music player with internal memory. It was able to almost single handedly place apple on the map.Judging by the ever increasing sales numbers one can come to the conclusion that it is complete monopoly in the segment by apple. The only thing in the market that tries to contend with the ipod right now is the Sony Walkman which i believe has a long way to go judging by apple's 75% market share in the segment right now.The ipod when first released was a bulky device and by no means little. It came with 5.1 GB of memory and was an instant success. The model later evolved but retained the basic shape and obtained the name ipod 'classic' and the sixth and current generation model comes with 80 and 160 GB versions. It obviously is a very good choice for people looking for many features in a portable device namely good battery life, large screen and ofcourse audio and video playback. The ipod 'shuffle' happens to be the smallest and cheapest ipod in the market today and comes with the just the 2 GB of memory. It does not possess a viewing screen of any kind, so there is no video playback. The body is very small, almost too small for you to carry around. The absence of the screen may prove to be a bit of a problem when selecting the songs to play but it also means amazing battery life. The ipod shuffle is now in its fourth generation. While the ipod classic comes in just two colour options the shuffle is available in as many as five colours. It is more than sufficient for people looking for just a portable music player and nothing else. The next and third model in the ipod range happens to be the king of entertainment itself, the ipod 'touch'.The device happens to be every bit an iphone if you can just leave out the phone part. The ipod touch allows the user to surf the web through wifi and play music like an ipod should and also allows the user to play the most amazing games and watch videos on the beautiul 3.5 inch touch screen. The current generation i.e the fourth generation ipod touch comes in 8,32 and 64 GB models with prices variating accordingly. Now i would like to come to the point of this post, the fourth model in the lineup and the one that i own-the ipod 'nano'
The nano has been given the name even though its not the smallest ipod out there which is rather interesting. The first generation nano was introduced in 2005 with a new one coming in every year. Its one of the most sought after models as of now.The nano is now in its sixth generation and for the latest one it becomes the second ipod to possess a touch screen. The one that i have with me is the fifth generation ipod nano and it has 8 GB of internal memory and is silver coloured. There is also a 16 GB variant for an escalated price and no other changes. This version came with a 2.2 inch lcd screen and the infamous apple clickwheel. The device has good battery life that will give you almost two days of running after one full charge. The Nano allows you to watch high quality videos on the screen and for the first time on an ipod a camera has been incorporated which can record video and play it back. The nano has many other features such as a pedometer to keep you on your toes all the time for the sake of fitness,an accelerometer giving you a comfortable landscape view with just the tilt of the device and an fm radio. The device comes in a wide variety of colors to choose from and it is also as slim as it can get.The audio clarity via the apple provided headset is quite good but to those who would like to use their own headsets, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Now as i conclude my review of the ipod nano 5G it is only fair that i should compare it with the 6G version. Now the 6G is not a bad device but its not an improvement over the previous version at all.Yes it has been given a touch screen but essential features like video playback have been removed and the screen is really tiny. This raises the question whether the nano 6G is really worth buying at all because if the budget can be extended by just a little the ipod classic and ipod touch are very much within range and they are definetely better in every way unless you are on the lookout for something very small. Finally i would like to say that the ipod nano for the current generation is not worth the money it demands and one should wait for the 7G version or should look to go for another model of the ipod range.Hope this has been helpful to any potential ipod buyer or person seeking knowledge on this subject.Thank you for being patient in reading and please watch out for my next post.Feel free to ask me questions regarding this subject and please leave your valuable comments.

Orange-the movie.

Orange-the name gives you a certain feeling when you hear it in relation to a movie.Yes it is the name of a movie and a telugu one to be specific.Starring Chiranjeevi's son Ram Charan and Genelia D'Souza.I was not intent on watching the movie even before it was released. The director has impressed many including me with his previous film-Bommarillu but this time i don't think he got it right. The film starts of in a rather enthusiastic manner.Genelia in particular was made to scream a lot in the first half which i felt was very annoying.Coming to the plot, there was no plot or atleast not a proper one that could glue you to your chair. It was based on a subject too loose in itself and did not have what it takes to keep you interested. The soundtrack had some decent tunes but follows in the bandwagon of today's telugu movie music, one or two good tunes out of five or six and very bad lyrics.
Summing up my view on the film i can say that most of the films that i have seen recently like Brindavanam and Robo for example have entertained me to an extent and this one sadly has failed to do so.Ram Charan is not bad but certainly needs to improve a lot and Genelia well....has become somewhat a stereotype and i would like to see something new from her. Finally i think people go to watch a movie in a theatre to come out entertained and i am one of those people but this film has failed to do just that. This is my opinion on the movie and mine alone and it is as honest as i can be.

Ahhhh!!!!the first one!!!!
