Hello everybody.Keeping variety in mind i have decided to review my ipod nano 5G.The ipod, ever since it was launched way back in 2001 has managed to become the most popular portable music player with internal memory. It was able to almost single handedly place apple on the map.Judging by the ever increasing sales numbers one can come to the conclusion that it is complete monopoly in the segment by apple. The only thing in the market that tries to contend with the ipod right now is the Sony Walkman which i believe has a long way to go judging by apple's 75% market share in the segment right now.The ipod when first released was a bulky device and by no means little. It came with 5.1 GB of memory and was an instant success. The model later evolved but retained the basic shape and obtained the name ipod 'classic' and the sixth and current generation model comes with 80 and 160 GB versions. It obviously is a very good choice for people looking for many features in a portable device namely good battery life, large screen and ofcourse audio and video playback. The ipod 'shuffle' happens to be the smallest and cheapest ipod in the market today and comes with the just the 2 GB of memory. It does not possess a viewing screen of any kind, so there is no video playback. The body is very small, almost too small for you to carry around. The absence of the screen may prove to be a bit of a problem when selecting the songs to play but it also means amazing battery life. The ipod shuffle is now in its fourth generation. While the ipod classic comes in just two colour options the shuffle is available in as many as five colours. It is more than sufficient for people looking for just a portable music player and nothing else. The next and third model in the ipod range happens to be the king of entertainment itself, the ipod 'touch'.The device happens to be every bit an iphone if you can just leave out the phone part. The ipod touch allows the user to surf the web through wifi and play music like an ipod should and also allows the user to play the most amazing games and watch videos on the beautiul 3.5 inch touch screen. The current generation i.e the fourth generation ipod touch comes in 8,32 and 64 GB models with prices variating accordingly. Now i would like to come to the point of this post, the fourth model in the lineup and the one that i own-the ipod 'nano'
The nano has been given the name even though its not the smallest ipod out there which is rather interesting. The first generation nano was introduced in 2005 with a new one coming in every year. Its one of the most sought after models as of now.The nano is now in its sixth generation and for the latest one it becomes the second ipod to possess a touch screen. The one that i have with me is the fifth generation ipod nano and it has 8 GB of internal memory and is silver coloured. There is also a 16 GB variant for an escalated price and no other changes. This version came with a 2.2 inch lcd screen and the infamous apple clickwheel. The device has good battery life that will give you almost two days of running after one full charge. The Nano allows you to watch high quality videos on the screen and for the first time on an ipod a camera has been incorporated which can record video and play it back. The nano has many other features such as a pedometer to keep you on your toes all the time for the sake of fitness,an accelerometer giving you a comfortable landscape view with just the tilt of the device and an fm radio. The device comes in a wide variety of colors to choose from and it is also as slim as it can get.The audio clarity via the apple provided headset is quite good but to those who would like to use their own headsets, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Now as i conclude my review of the ipod nano 5G it is only fair that i should compare it with the 6G version. Now the 6G is not a bad device but its not an improvement over the previous version at all.Yes it has been given a touch screen but essential features like video playback have been removed and the screen is really tiny. This raises the question whether the nano 6G is really worth buying at all because if the budget can be extended by just a little the ipod classic and ipod touch are very much within range and they are definetely better in every way unless you are on the lookout for something very small. Finally i would like to say that the ipod nano for the current generation is not worth the money it demands and one should wait for the 7G version or should look to go for another model of the ipod range.Hope this has been helpful to any potential ipod buyer or person seeking knowledge on this subject.Thank you for being patient in reading and please watch out for my next post.Feel free to ask me questions regarding this subject and please leave your valuable comments.
